President Satara City Congress Committee (1938)
Member of Satara Municipality (1938-46).
Elected as MLA in 1946 from Maan Tahsil in Satara
District.
Minister of Bombay State (1946-57), held portfolios
such as housing, industry, local self govt. Social
justice. He drafted the temple entry bill for the entry
of harijans in templs & places of worship. Resettled
the Sindhi migrants of Pakistan by creating Ulhasnagar
now a flourishing city in Thane District.
Member of Parliament (1962-68),
Chairman of Railway Service Commission,
Governor of Uttar Pradesh (1977-80),
Governor of Haryana (1980-84). He made the Maratha
Memorial at Panipat, as a tribute to the Maratha
warriors.
His Birth Centenary function was held on 30/10/2008 at
Satara. |
